Mech Every Day #40: Archer

Mass and Tech Base: 70 tons (Heavy) / Inner Sphere
Miniature Source: Inner Sphere Command Lance
Paint Scheme: Wolf's Dragoons (Unique)
Notable Pilot: Jaime Wolf

All paints used are from Army Painter unless otherwise noted.
This miniature was primed with Matt White spray. It was then given an overall coat of Steiner Blue (High Lord Blue) and drybrushed with Donegal Blue (Runic Cobalt). Details were added with Parade Chrome (Shining Silver), Widow Black (Grim Black), Muster Yellow (Inner Light), Kurita Red (Blood Red), and Liao Green (Orc Skin). The base was painted with Apple Barrel Matte Black.

    The Archer is my all time favourite 'Mech. Have you inked this or given it a wash for depth? Or, are you using the classic base coat, drybrush highlight and detailing approach?

      Base coat, drybrush, and detail. I started with an overall coat of Army Painter's Steiner Blue, one of their Speedpaints that acts like a base coat, wash, and highlight all in one. But I wanted to give it more definition and lighten it to more of a baby blue, so I gave it a moderately-heavy drybrush of Donegal Blue. From there I added the details.

Maps! I love them, especially for BattleTech. I find the ebb and flow of the national borders endlessly fascinating. All of the maps in this post are based directly on official BattleTech sources, just reduced in size and colored to emphasize each state. This first map depicts the Inner Sphere in 2596, at the end of the Age of War and the beginning of the Star League. The ten major states of this period have formed, most of which will continue on through the centuries to come. In the center is the Terran Hegemony (gray). The Lyran Commonwealth is in blue, Free Worlds League in purple, green for the Capellan Confederation, yellow for the Federated Suns, and red for the Draconis Combine. This miniature was sprayed with Matte White. The base coat is Marik Purple (AKA Purple Alchemy in the Speedpaint 1.0 range). Details include Parade Chrome (AKA Shining Silver), Ricol Red (AKA Pure Red), Ultramarine Blue, Death Commando (AKA Deep Gray) and Bounty Hunter Green (AKA Shamrock Green Speedpaint 2.0). Cover to 25 Years of Art and Fiction by Catalyst Game Labs Hello and welcome BattleTech fans! My name is Roland, and I'm a longtime BattleTech fan (since 1988) and one-time developer. In December of 2024 I posted a painted BattleTech miniature every day on Bluesky for a "'Mech Advent Calendar." I had so much fun that I promised to do the same thing for the entirety of 2025 - bold to the point of foolishness, I know. I decided to scale it back a bit. Every weekday I'll post a couple photos (front and back) of a painted BattleTech miniature.
